Swimming

Ben has been asking us for weeks to go swimming. We keep telling him that while it's nice outside- the pool water is freezing. Finally we thought we'd let him go in and discover for himself. Sam finally had to make him get out after 10 min of swimming as his lips were purple.

5 months

This past month our girl has mastered rolling on to her tummy. She can go front to back, but doesn't always want to and screams (wow is her voice high pitched!!) for us to do that. Thanks to her rolling over she now also sleeps on her tummy at night (flips herself over right after we put her down). We swaddle her for naps, but at night time we kept finding the swaddle bunched around her waist so we finally had to remove it so she didn't strangle herself in the night!
For those of you that have noticed -Mae is always in something red for her monthly pictures. The main color in her bedroom is red so after she turns 1 I was thinking of doing something with these monthly pictures for her bedroom. Problem is - I don't always love some of the red clothes on her that she has :) But I refuse to buy an outfit for the picture as this girl has way too many clothes!!

Western Week

Ben's preschool had a Western week where they could dress up as cowboys and had Western activities all week. On Thursday they brought in ponies for them to ride. He only goes to preschool M/W/F but we were allowed to come in just for that and of course he was ecstatic!! He sat on the horse and rocked to try to make him go even faster but he still grinned as the pony stuck to his poky pace :)

Enermodal Playdate

Ben, Mae and I went to the Children's Museum for a playdate Pierce. He's the son of the other Enermodal Arizona employee and is 9 months younger then Ben. The 2 of them have always gotten along great which has been wonderful for Ellen & I. We spent about 4.5 hours there and Mae just napped and hung out watching the activity.

After the castle painting the 2 of them had pink paint in their hair, faces, clothes - it was cute :)

Skiing

I forgot 1 picture/activity for February - Benjamin going skiing with Sam. The 2 of them headed North to Flagstaff for a day of skiing and Benjamin came home showing me all the things he learned in his lessons :) He LOVED it!!

February

Since I slacked off posting in February, I am just going to do a collection here. Working part time with 2 kids (1 home, 1 home part time) seems to keep me quite busy. Poor Mae is going to 1 day notice that I posted much more frequently Ben's 1st year....
These 1st 2 are a playdate with 1 of Ben's closest friends. They are night and day in terms of personality but because of that they get along amazingly!!Happy girl watching Mommy hang up the laundry to dry.
Bundled up to go pick up Ben from preschool during 1 of the cold spells we had at the beginning of the month.
Ben still LOVES his sister. I am still amazed at how wonderful of a big brother he is. He wants to take a bath with her every night, I'll catch him in her room reading her stories in her crib, he talks to her as she plays in the exersaucer, helps me feed her her cereal, and whenever I pick him up from school he is cooing over her in the carseat and pointing her out to his friends...he really is just amazing with her.
Rawhide had a free day so we went just so Ben could get a ride on the donkey. I stood in line for an hour while he went to the petting zoo and then played on the playground (Sam supervised him). He was done the ride in about 5 min. He loved it so much he wanted to go right back again but while I didn't mind standing in line once (he was entertained, Mae was happy eating her feet in the stroller) - no way I was going to repeat :)
Meal time: We started Mae on solids and she inhales her rice cereal, just like Ben used to. She eats 1/4c in about 2 min....(that could be a slight exaggeration - but not by much!). And now that we have her on solids before bed she sleeps through the night and that I LOVE!! I nurse her before her bedtime (7) Sam will go in around 11pm to wake her and give her a bottle and then we get her up the next morning at 7.
Before
AfterNext is Mae all ready for church. We haven't put her in the nursery yet. If she is awake and well rested in the morning we try to keep her up till the 10:30 service so she just sleeps on me in my carrier at the back of the church. Otherwise we let her do her 45min cat nap 1st and then sit in the lobby (there is a TV there showing the sermon) so her high pitch squeals don't bother anyone.

4 Months

Mae measured 13lbs (25th %) and 25" (75%) at her 4month appointment. We did Ben's 4year checkup at the same time and he was 42lbs and 42" (90% for both). They both got shots and Ben was amazing for all 3 of his - asked us to not do the last 1 after the 1st 2 but he didn't fight it and never even cried. Mae......well, let's just say she started screaming before they even gave her the shot and never stopped.Mae has learned to roll over (front to back and back to front) since her 3month birthday but she only does it when she feels like it. Other times she will lie there and scream so you can flip her. And when she screams there is nowhere you can hide in the house to block it out :) She has a REALLY high pitch squeal when she's laughing or when she's screaming because she's mad. Overall though she has been a very laid back child. If we're home she does prefer to have someone's direct attention and doesn't like to play by herself (she makes this 'owl' sound with her mouth shut constantly until someone returns to her), but once she has that she is perfectly happy and not fussy. And when we're out she is content to be in the stroller watching the activity around her or sleeping in the carrier on me.

Benjamin Turns 4

We took our big boy to Amazing Jake's for his birthday (for you Canadians that's like Chuck E Cheese or Bullwinkles) and he had a fantastic time. We got there right when it opened to beat the crowds and we stayed for 5 hrs. Mae hung out in the stroller the whole time, took a couple 30min naps and never fussed. We only got 1 photo of her (after we got home) as she was so good we kept forgetting there was someone in the stroller we were pushing around. Just like at Legoland the Frog Hopper was his favorite ride and he kept going on it over & over. When he and Sam went on the spinning tea cups I told Sam to not spin it too hard to make Ben sick - but it was Ben that kept spinning it really fast and made Sam nauseous :) At the end of the day we took his 400 tickets from the games (Sam and I started getting addicted to wheel of fortune...) and he went to choose his prizes. We had a very happy boy.

I forgot to take pictures of him opening his Birthday gifts at home. But he was so cute as when we put the pile in front of him - he looked at it and asked which ones were for Mommy & Daddy. We explained to him it was his birthday, so only he got gifts but every time he unwrapped 1 he checked to make sure we didn't get one too :)

Hanging Out

Benjamin has had to share our attention now for over 3 months and he still has not complained. He loves having Mae around and wants her to do everything with him. He is a huge helper to me (entertains her, washes floors, washes dishes, vacuums, dusts - anything for a sticker!) and a fantastic big brother.

3 months and 1st haircut

The day after Mae's 3month photo she received her 1st hair cut :)

Nana & Grandpa Visit

Nana and Grandpa came out for a visit and we had a wonderful time. Benjamin just loved having Grandpa to play with and he was very sad when they left since his parents don't spend hours on the floor with him every day playing with his animals, cars, and all his board games.

Gingerbread Train

After Christmas I hit the 75% off Christmas clearance and obtained this train for Benjamin to decorate. He had a wonderful time putting it together and I let him slowly eat it for 3 weeks, and then finally threw it out :)

Bathtime

This was Mae's 1st bath in the big tub. Benjamin loved having her join him so now he asks for her every time he takes a bath. We have since gotten a seat and cushion to put her in to save our arms.
